"Hi,
My name is J.D. Long. I was at the Palmetto Sportsman's Classic with Hootie's Outdoors and really liked your turkey calls. I even got your video on tagging turkeys. It is really great and really gets me pumped to go turkey hunting.
I recently killed my first turkey at the beginning of April. It was a jake. My friend shot the other jake that came in with him. The guy that was calling for us was working a big tom that we heard on the roost in game management, but some logging equipment started up and must've spooked the tom, so we went over the ridge where he was roosted and set the decoys up and I hit my mouth call, and we heard some gobbles. I waited and hit it with some yelps and got my gun up. The two jakes came right into the decoys at twenty yards, and I nailed the first one and my friend shot the second one. It was so awesome.
Then, on April 20th I took my dad, because he has never killed one. So, I brought the video camera and my calls. We got there and owl hooted. Nothing. We owl hooted again. Nothing. My dad was starting to get discourage and I explained to him how they can be there and not gobble, so we kept walking and we saw two jakes fly down into the powerline at 120 yards. I dropped to my knees and set the camera up and got my mouth call and box call out. My dad layed down to prop the gun on the ground.
I was getting some good footage for a rookie, and before I knew it seven jakes were out there strutting and stuff. I called a little but not to much as to not getting the birds hung up. They came right on in. My dad popped the first one, and I told him to shoot the second one. He shot him to and the hunt was over at 7:10 a.m. He was so excited. For my first season, I have called up nine. I guess that's pretty good.
Well, thanks for reading this. Maybe next year, we can get some more footage of my dad and I putting tags on turkeys. Thanks a lot.
God Bless.
